Protecting Your Heart By Acting Like You DGAF Will Backfire On You

Acting like you don’t give a fuck isn’t going to protect you. It’s only going to hurt you. It’s going to isolate you. It’s going to create a distance between you and the people you care about the most.

Your IDGAF attitude is going to backfire on you. It’s going to do more harm than good. Even if you manage to protect yourself from pain, you’ll end up hurting the people you supposedly care about in the process. You’ll make them feel unappreciated, unwanted, unloved. You’ll make them go through the same exact set of emotions you’re trying to save yourself from experiencing.

Of course, you aren’t actually going to save yourself from those emotions. No matter how hard you try to appear heartless and cold, acting like you don’t give a fuck isn’t going to protect your heart because it’s only an act. You might be able to fool everyone else into seeing you a certain way, but you aren’t going to be able to change the way you feel inside.

Even if you convince your crush you aren’t interested in dating them, it’s still going to hurt when they start dating someone else. Sure, hiding your feelings from them might have saved yourself from the embarrassment of getting rejected face-to-face, but you also might have lost out on your chance to date them yourself.

Acting like you don’t give a fuck is not going to make dating easier on you. It’s not going to make you seem cooler. It’s not going to make you seem mysterious. It’s not going to impress anyone. It’s only going to make you look inauthentic while people prefer honesty. They don’t appreciate being lied to, even if you think the lies are for your own good.

Acting like you don’t give a fuck might seem like the easiest way to handle your uncomfortable emotions — but it’s actually much easier (and much more relieving) to speak from the heart. Let your vulnerability show. Express your emotions. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Tell other people how you feel while they’re still around to hear the words.

Don’t buy into the myth that you have to hide your feelings to avoid coming across as clingy. It’s better to look like you care too much than care too little. At least when you look like you care too much, other people are flattered. When you look like you care too little, other people are insulted. Wouldn’t you rather bring joy than sadness? Wouldn’t you rather be a source of positivity than negativity?

Acting like you don’t give a fuck is going to backfire on you. It isn’t going to protect your heart. It isn’t going to stop you from getting hurt. It’s only going to make you push people who matter away.

Meanwhile, admitting you do give a fuck is the bravest thing you could do. It’s going to show the world you’re genuine, you’re trustworthy, you’re true to yourself, and you have a soft heart. TC mark
