5 Ways to Design for Wellness

Adopting a healthy, natural lifestyle is an ever-increasing popular choice.  Making a conscious decision to eat better and exercise are often the first topics that come to mind when setting out on a healthier lifestyle.  One way to give yourself a boost is by designing your home to have a natural, relaxing feel. With the amount of time spent in your home, it makes sense to make it a haven for relaxing and regenerating after a busy day.  We are going to explore five ways to turn your house into a natural and healthy home.

Air and Water

One of the first things that you can do is invest in an air purifier.  Air purifiers are devices that will help remove dirt, pollen, dust and other allergens from the air circulating in our home.  You can use these in each room or invest in a centralized one for your home. There are even more expensive models that will filter in fresh, outdoor air and even some that can help remove bacteria and also viruses from the air in our home.

Water purifiers help to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals from our tap water, making it a healthy, drinking option.  These can attach right to your faucet and are very easy to install.

Natural Products

When you are looking at redecorating rooms, try and opt for natural, chemical free products.  There are plenty of companies that offer recycled or natural products that are both beautiful and socially conscious.  One crucial and often overlooked area is cleaning products and detergents. Take special care when you are choosing cleaning products as many of them contain harsh chemicals not conducive to the healthy environment you are trying to achieve.

Make sure you include in your design plans your quiet space.  This is a spot you should be able to come to and relax and refresh after a hard day.  It doesn’t have to be an entire room; it can be a minimal space. Some people prefer just a yoga or meditation room, others prefer a comfy chair and book.  However, you choose to design it, make sure it is somewhere that you can just sit and reflect and destress after your day.

Lighting

Lighting can play a significant role in a healthy home.  Himalayan salt lamps are definitely a great choice. There are also Selenite lamps which are also salt lamps but a much higher concentration.  This will increase the impact of neutralizing negative energy in your home. Not to mention the soft light is very soothing and relaxing.

Scents

You should definitely use a humidifier in your home.  Adding some water to your air will help with your eyes and even your skin.  It helps keep you hydrated and feeling great. Aromatherapy is another great tool.  Utilize different scents to help with relaxation and even stress!
